Movie Review (The Sun is also A Star)

Love is the most magical thing that hits us when we least expect it. And it is always easy for a tender hearted to fall in love. But for a skeptic? Will it be that easy to convince her and get her love? Difficult but not impossible. Cupid is always on duty! He melts the hearts magically. His arrows never miss the target. The movie shows how cupid connects a tender hearted Daniel Bae who believes in love and destiny with perceptive Natasha Kingsley who rejects it just as  a coincidence. However the fate is on its play that they both fall prey to it as puppets.
The movie opens hysterically showing Natasha, arguing with her parents howmuch she loves NewYork and not ready to leave it anymore. It is unleashed that their African immigrant family has to be deported to Jamaica after an ICE raid. When the entire family is budging, Natasha fights back, knocking the doors of different officials, seeking legal help. On the other hand, Daniel, being a Korean immigrant who has a penchant for poetry is forced by his family to become a doctor. As a part of it, he has an interview with an alumnus of Dartmouth to seek a seat in the prestigious university.

Incidentally or as destiny would have it, the day turns out to be unavoidable for both. The movie unleashes how the single day binds them despite their personal commitments. The audience are in the quest whether it turns out to be a happy ending love or will remain just a fixation. Whether their meeting is destiny as Daniel says or just a coincidence as Natasha thinks. However in the end.... Love conquers!!! 

The movie is an adaptation of a YA Novel of the same title, by Nicola Yoon. It captures the crude emotions and predicaments of teenagers— how they stand for what they want, how their desires are hurdled by the narrow constraints of parental pressure and social norms. Though the ending was not convincing and the plotline gradually fizzled out, it was a convincing watch. The dialogues were realistic and engaging that the viewer can feel the beat of the characters.

Dunki (2023) London - City of dreams or City of Nightmare? Grass is always greener on the other side. People migrating to foreign countries for want of better life is not a new scenario but there is an ugly side too. There are numerous underprivileged, uneducated people who attempt to reach the target country illegally, risking their lives.  Rajkumar Hirani's SRK starrer "Dunki" has attempted its best to portray the plights of those people. Technically, "Dunki is an illegal trip a lot of people take to get out of their country across borders over the world. "Yenna Yazhu... Innum 1 naal dhan. Apram 2 naal leave.... Jolly dhan!!!", a lady was shouting out as I was busy scrapping a coconut.  "Aama, aunty!!!", came a cheerful reply.
