Anecdotes from the life of a literature student-2

 First ever interview

It was by the end of the third year undergraduation, that eye-opening incident took place. It was the first ever interview I had ever appeared for — one of the most famous companies in South India. All our professors motivated us to take part in that (as it was an on-campus interview). Technically NERDY ME registered for the same within a wink's time.

The sleepless anxious previous night made me toss and turn on the bed visualising the scene of recieving the call letter from our principal's hand and posing with pride for the photographs to be published in our college magazine.
I was undoubtedly nervous on the day of the interview as it was the very first time I was about to do something serious for my career that too on my own.

Nevertheless I woke up early in the morning (with puffy eyes though). Got ready; went through some books; skimmed the daily; chomped on some bread slices; bade bye-byes and boarded the bus.

There in college, some of my friends were waiting with the same anxiety, peeping out of their faces. Having shared our stories of sleepless previous night and preparations, we all ventured out into the crowd to reach the venue.

There, we were seated in the auditorium sharply at 8:30am. I just entered the hall to marvel at the mob of diverse people including UG, PG even M.Phil. graduates competing for the same call letter which I had been dreaming to win.

Everything turned grim and dull all of a sudden. But the H.R. (who was the alumnus of our college himself) renewed my spirit through his five minutes length speech.

I took up the first round — written test. The paper was quite easy — a few grammar based questions and some aptitude based ones. Taddaaa..... I entered the second round. I could even feel my hands adjusting the imaginary crown on my head.

The slot for the second round had only half of the population we had had for the previous one.  I was feeling butterflies fluttering wildly in my stomach.
We were split into groups. I was one of those ten members of group number: 4.
Those were the people whom I had never seen in my life.

Minutes passed. It was announced later that we were to take part in a Group Discussion and topics would be given shortly.

(To be continued...)
