Siblings - The Saplings of Same Soil



Siblings are the saplings planted in the same ground. They get the same rain and same shine; breathe in the same air. Bloom together. Shade each other. Their flowers are of same fragrance; fruits are of same taste; leaves are of same shape. They bud, flourish and wither finally unchanged. Yet the bond gets stronger and stronger day by day. Their roots are tangled to let them stand firm. 


There are thousands of people we come across in our life. Family is a miniature society which is complete in itself. Mother gives us birth, father gives us protection, grand parents give us care. But the siblings are ultimate. They play multiple roles. They are our parents while showing us love; teachers while teaching good and bad and streamlining our path; friends while having fun; enemies during the trivial brawls we have and what not!


Despite all the odds, we stand for each other. A brother may pull your braid but will never let anybody pull your pride. A sister may snatch your snack but she will never let anybody snatch your happiness. Let it be elder or younger, siblings are siblings. They are our lifelines, comrades, enemies, partners-in-crime, well-wishers, protectors and everything else they could be! They are our rakshaks. That's why it's Raksha ka Bandhan. We tie Rakhi on this auspicious day to showcase our love and to remind the duty to be a rakshak to each other.  


Our paths may be filled with splinters and potholes but we enjoy one another's company that spices our life and adds colour to our life's palette. Let the tie never be torn and let the love blows like an inflated balloon.

First times are always special. Dunki (2023) London - City of dreams or City of Nightmare? Grass is always greener on the other side. People migrating to foreign countries for want of better life is not a new scenario but there is an ugly side too. There are numerous underprivileged, uneducated people who attempt to reach the target country illegally, risking their lives.  Rajkumar Hirani's SRK starrer "Dunki" has attempted its best to portray the plights of those people. Technically, "Dunki is an illegal trip a lot of people take to get out of their country across borders over the world. "Yenna Yazhu... Innum 1 naal dhan. Apram 2 naal leave.... Jolly dhan!!!", a lady was shouting out as I was busy scrapping a coconut.  "Aama, aunty!!!", came a cheerful reply. It was quarter to four in the noon. The road was empty that their interaction was heard throughout the alleyway. Yazhu is a granddaughter of our front door neighbour who has just joined her KG, in a nursery school in our locality. When I peeped through our gateway, she was fiddling next to the main entrance of their house, still decked up in her school uniform. I could find her unicorn school bag and a water bottle that matched the bag. (Of course pink) The happiness I spotted on her face was still fresh. Every morning, these days, I hear her mom and grandma ranting and raving with hypertension, right from waking her up to feeding her breakfast and sending her off to school.
